Our objectives
An environmental education programme whose objectives contribute to the fulfilment of several UN Sustainable Development Goals adopted by Member States in 2015.
The objectives of the school gardens are to ensure healthy living, guarantee sustainable water management, promote sustainable consumption and production, and adopt measures to combat climate change, as well as other objectives within the Balearic Islands Agricultural Law, such as promoting organic and local production and food sufficiency and security.

School gardens
- Sowing (vegetables, cereals, nectar-rich flowers)
- Preparation of traditional seasonal seedlings
- Seed harvesting
- Soil management
- Irrigation techniques: efficient water use
- Cultivation techniques: tongue grafting, raised beds, flat beds, mulching…
- Crop rotation
- Fallowing
- Observation and identification of beneficial flora and fauna
- Composting
- Duration: 50 minutes/day/group
One-off activities
Farm exit
- Visit to an organic farm in production and native breed animals
- Learning about the daily tasks of a farmer
- Understanding where our food is sold
- Benefits of consuming local and organic products
- Duration: 3 hours/visit
Kitchen
- Workshop on how to cook with garden produce.
- Importance of consuming local and organic products.
- Natural juices, plant-based milks, xeixa wheat pizzas, bread, biscuits, salads, almond-based dishes.
- Duration: 50 minutes/group.
Herbarium
- Walking trip to the nearest forest to collect plant samples.
- Creation of a herbarium to learn about the plants in our environment: characteristics, uses, traditions…
- Duration: 3 hours/group (2 hours outdoors and 1 hour for the herbarium), over two sessions.
Insect hotel
- Workshop to build a home for honey bees and beneficial insects for the garden.
- Students will bring some of the materials that they can easily find.
- One will be built per educational centre with the participation of all classes separately.
- Duration: 50 minutes/group
